After removal, check bearing seats, splines, snap-ring grooves, and mating faces for fretting, scoring, cracks, or heat discoloration. Record findings before reassembly hides the evidence.

Overhaul quality depends on fitting replacement bearings with force applied to the correct race and on maintaining cleanliness. Plan drifts, sleeves, heating methods, or a press setup before installation begins.
