The right Allison transmission puller is chosen from the part you need to remove, the clearance behind it, and the force path allowed by the model-specific service procedure. A good setup removes the component without loading bearing rolling elements, gear teeth, or the case.
Start with the exact component and service procedure
Identify whether the job concerns a bearing, gear, hub, coupler, or sleeve before choosing any puller. Check the applicable service procedure for retainers, heat guidance, support points, and removal direction.
Measure the available grip and clearance
Record the shaft diameter, outside diameter, depth behind the component, and room around the housing. These dimensions determine whether hooks can engage safely or a separator is needed.

Inspect the fit after removal
Once the component is free, inspect the shaft, bearing seat, splines, grooves, and surrounding case for scoring, fretting, cracks, or heat marks. Record the condition before installation work begins.
