Safety Tip:
Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or closed toe shoes.
.Open the hood and locate the power steering pump and reservoir. Note: the reservoir may be a separate container / independent of the hydraulic pump.
.Check power steering fluid level.
.Locate the power steering pressure and return hoses.
.Inspect power steering hoses for leaks.
.Place a drain pan under the pressure hose connection at the steering rack or gearbox.
.Using a flare nut wrench, loosen and remove the pressure hose fittings from the steering rack / gearbox and the power steering pump.
.Install the new power steering pressure hose, making sure to route it the same as the old hose. Do not over tighten the fitting threaded connections. Be sure to replace both the steering pressure and return hoses at the same time if both are same age and mileage.
.Fill the power steering reservoir with the manufacturer's recommended power steering fluid.
.Start the engine to circulate the power steering fluid. Stop the engine and refill the reservoir.
.Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from left to right. Check the steering hoses and rest of the power steering system for any leaks.
.Turn off the engine and check the power steering fluid level. Add fluid if necessary. Do not overfill the reservoir / system.
.Road test to verify the repair.
