Chinese self-driving solution provider DeepRoute.ai started offering its Robotaxi service to the general public on July 19, the company announced via its WeChat account. From then on, passengers in Shenzhen can hail self-driving taxis through DeepRoute’s WeChat mini program

To ensure safety and comply with current laws and regulations, safety drivers are still required in a bid to take control in case of an emergency.

In April, DeepRoute.ai became the first automaker to obtain the permit that allows self-driving cars to transport passengers on open roads in Shenzhen, a positive sign for the company to commercialize the self-driving technology.

The company said its Robotaxi is capable of accurately recognizing all kinds of transport participants as far as up to 100 meters and doing route planning and decision-making based on real-time road conditions. By virtue of the multi-sensor fusion, the highly efficient inference and computing, the prediction of dynamic obstacles’ behaviors, the automatic obstacle avoidance, the 5G-enabled remote monitoring, and other capabilities, safe and reliable Robotaxi service can be offered even in dark night and heavy rain.

Founded in early 2019, DeepRoute.ai is a Level 4 self-driving solution supplier to OEMs, tier 1 suppliers, and ride-hailing and logistics service provider. It has so far carried out autonomous car tests in urban areas of Shenzhen, Wuhan and Hangzhou, accumulating over 2 million kilometers of safe testing mileages.
